MEDIA RELEASE - Council launches support scheme for local businesses

29 June 2020

Businesses in the Glenelg Shire will be able to access free professional support to help navigate the changing economic landscape thanks to an innovative new scheme.

The Glenelg Shire Council have introduced a ‘Return to Business’ scheme, offering all eligible businesses the opportunity to apply for a support voucher worth $250 to subside the cost of seeking professional advice from an accountant or business advisor.

The scheme, endorsed at last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting, aims to support and strengthen businesses in the Shire and ensure business owners are well-informed to navigate their way through the uncertain effects of the pandemic.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank encouraged businesses to utilise the scheme, citing it as a “win-win” opportunity.

“Council recognises that businesses have been adversely affected by COVID-19, and it will significantly change the business landscape going forward,” she said.

“This voucher will subsidise consultancy services aimed at assisting businesses to make the best possible decisions in a difficult environment. Business owners will be able to access and understand the most up to date information on the financial position and financial health of their business.

“I invite all eligible businesses to make the most of this unique offer and access free professional advice to equip their business for the short and long-term future.”

To be eligible for the ‘Return to Business’ voucher, applications must:
• Have an Australian Business Number (ABN);
• Employ fewer than 50 FTE employees at the time of application (applications above the number of employees will be considered in the tourism and hospitality sectors);
• Have a residential and/or business address within the Glenelg Shire;
• Use the voucher at an Accountants or Professional Service provider located in the Glenelg Shire.

Applications open Monday 6 July 2020 and close Friday 30 October 2020. Vouchers must be used by Wednesday 31 March 2021.
