Light Up Glenelg

The Glenelg Shire is finding innovative ways to help spread the festive cheer this year, launching the very first ‘Light Up Glenelg’ campaign to celebrate busy summer season.

‘Light Up Glenelg’, which refers to the lighting up community spirit, will aim to unify and connect community members through a series of events, both online and physical.

Check out the range of events happening below.

XMAS in Glenelg - Online Christmas Concert

Celebrate Christmas by tuning into our first ever online Christmas concert on December 11 from 7pm and sitting back and listening to your favourite performers, both national and local.

The event will be headlined by family favourites The Mik Maks and much-loved Australian folk-rock duo Little Georgia.

Virtual New Years Eve

For New Year’s Eve, the focus on supporting and celebrating live local music will continue, with all your favourite local performers set to play for the virtual event streamed live via the Glenelg Shire Facebook page.

The event will also feature a live set from Australian indie-folk group The Pierce Brothers, who wowed the crowds at the first Hooked on Portland event in 2018.

CLB 3X3 Basketball

CLB3X3 Basketball, the Glenelg Shire & Portland Basketball Association brings you 3 Days of 3X3 action, slam dunks, 3 point shoot outs, school holiday fun and world ranking points.

The 3 day event that will combine elite sport with grassroots to bring you a festival of 3X3 action along with pre-registered
games, free entry 3 point shoot outs & mini clinics to be held at the Youth Activity Space, Portland Foreshore, Lee Breakwater Road from Friday 15th January through to Sunday 17th January 2021.

Players can register to compete in a range of competitions over the weekend from a Corporate Social Night held on the Friday from 6pm onwards, or as a Junior U13’s to U18’s player on the Sunday from 10am onwards or as an Opens player putting on the show for the Saturday twilight competition from 4pm onwards.

Or you might just want to come along as a spectator and enjoy the atmosphere and see the rising talent come out on top during the Finals each day.

Australia Day

Recognise Australia Day at one of the physical or virtual Civic Events happening across the Shire:

Portland
Due to current COVID restrictions, a small civic event will be held for Australia Day in Portland at the Civic Hall from 8am - 10am (breakfast included).
The event will include the official presentations of the Glenelg Shire Australia Day Award winners, including Citizen of the Year.

Community members will still be able to view the presentations, with the event recorded and streamed to the Glenelg Shire Facebook and YouTube channels shortly after.

This event is assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.

Casterton
Due to current COVID restrictions, a small civic event will be held for Australia Day in Casterton at the Town Hall from 8am - 10am (breakfast included).
The event will include the official presentations of the Glenelg Shire Australia Day Award winners, including Citizen of the Year.

Community members will still be able to view the presentations, with the event recorded and streamed to the Glenelg Shire Facebook and YouTube channels shortly after.

This event is assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.

Heywood
A public event hosted by the Promoting Heywood and District Committee will be held for Australia Day in Heywood on the banks of the Fitzroy River from 11:30am.
The event will include the presentation of the Heywood Citizen of the Year, and a barbecue lunch will be on offer from the Heywood Lions and Heywood CWA.

Merino
A public event hosted by the Merino Lions Club will be held for Australia Day in Merino at the Merino Swimming Pool from 11:00am.
The event will include the presentation of the Merino Citizen of the Year.
