MEDIA RELEASE - Christmas display winners announced - Casterton

24 December 2020

After weeks of bringing a touch of colour and twinkle to the Glenelg Shire, the winners of the 2020 Light Up Glenelg Retail Window & Light Display Competition have been determined for Casterton.

The competition asked traders throughout the month of December to adorn their premises with their best Christmas lights and decorations in a bid to win a marketing package with the Casterton News.

Following the official judging process, Sports & All was judged as the top display for the township for its striking combination of decorations and lights.

Fellow Henty Street retailer Richardson’s Butchery and Main Street Munchies both took home equal second prize for their dazzling shopfront displays.

Glenelg Shire Deputy Mayor and member of the judging panel Cr Karen Stephens thanked all the participating businesses for their creative efforts and for bringing a touch of Christmas cheer.

“The Retail Window & Light Display Competition has certainly brought the Christmas spirit to the Casterton CBD, with many impressive and creative festive themed shopfronts brightening up the township,” she said.

“It was fantastic to see many local businesses going above and beyond, and naturally the judging panel had a number of beautiful entries to choose from. However, Sports & All’s innovative and effective use of fairy lights and decorations stood out as the clear winner.

“Richardson’s Butchery and Main Street Munchies was a close second for their twinkling and colourful light display, which lit up Henty Street. A special commendation was also awarded to Casterton Farm Supplies.

“I congratulate Sports & All, Richardson’s Butchery and Main Street Munchies for their winning displays, which bought much joy to locals and visitors.

“I encourage community members to take one final glimpse of the beautiful decorated shopfronts in Casterton, and to shop local first and foremost during this festive period.”
