MEDIA RELEASE - School holiday program partners with NGV

19 December 2017

An exciting partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) will be a highlight of this summer’s free holiday program for January 2018.

NGV Kids on Tour will celebrate the NGV Triennial and the Fiona Hall: Uneasy Seasons exhibitions by bringing hands-on activities and workshops to venues across the Glenelg Shire.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the partnership would give local children the same opportunities as those in Melbourne to be part of the NGV Kids Summer Festival, which runs from 8–14 January 2018.

“Council is always pleased to be able to offer a quality program of activities for school children during the holidays,” Cr Rank said.

“This holiday program we are proud to partner with NGV, one of the state’s leading creative venues, to offer quality workshops for local children.

“The Glenelg Shire will be one of 55 locations across the state to participate in the program by hosting an array of free creative workshops, including nonsense drawing challenges, pot painting decorating and mixed media portrait sessions.

“This means families will be able to access quality workshops in their very own township, without the burden of travel or cost.

“With so much on offer these summer holidays I encourage all families to book in early to avoid disappointment – you won’t want to miss out on these free activities.”

The program, open to Glenelg Shire school aged children up to year eight, will also include a mystery challenge and pool parties across the shire.

Bookings open from 9am on 2 January and with limited numbers available early bookings are encouraged by calling 1300 GLENELG.

The School Holiday Program is currently being delivered to all shire schools and hard copies can be collected from council’s Customer Service Centres and libraries.
