MEDIA RELEASE - Rock legend Jon Stevens gets Hooked on Portland

4 October 2019

Australian rock legend and self-confessed fishing lover Jon Stevens is headlining the Hooked on Portland festival this summer.

Stevens, best known as the front man of Noiseworks and INXS, will be performing live from the foreshore stage for the third annual festival, which annually celebrates Portland’s rich fishing culture and abundant tourism offerings on the January long weekend.

Recognised as one of the most talented rock musicians to emerge from Australia, the Melbourne-based singer has promised to perform all of his classic hits with his full band.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said Stevens was also looking forward to testing his angling skills to catch a prized Portland southern Bluefin tuna.

“Luring Jon Stevens to our Hooked on Portland festival is a huge coup which will attract even more national attention to our growing event,” Cr Rank said.

“Jon Stevens is a rock god with cult following on the festival touring circuit and there is no doubt these music fans will have their eyes on our region this summer, keen to watch his Portland foreshore show and shout out the words to No Lies or Take Me Back.

“Hooked on Portland is becoming recognized as a must-attend summer event because of this high quality entertainment. In just three years we have presented a long list of nationally recognized performers such as the Pierce Brothers, who are now touring the world, and indigenous performer Benny Walker who is headlining the Port Fairy Folk Festival.

“This extends to a long list of MasterChef participants and River Cottage star Paul West cooking up a store with our world class produce.

“Hooked on Portland 2020 is on its way to being the biggest list of entertainment yet with more big announcements to follow in the coming weeks.”

Stevens is currently touring nationally to sold-out shows on his The Noiseworks and INXS Collection Tour.

The Hooked on Portland festival is coordinated by the Glenelg Shire Council in conjunction with the Victorian Fishing Authority. To keep up to date on all events updates visit
