MEDIA RELEASE - Fly to the Portland Library

14 January 2020

Community members are invited to try on a new pair of wings and fly as part of a new unique art project at the Glenelg Libraries.

A set of colourful wings are now on display in the front foyer of the Portland Library. The wings are a collaborative art piece and are made up of hundreds of individual illustrated feathers designed by local residents.

Library and Information Services Manager Yvette Parker thanked all those who participated in the project.

“We are overwhelmed by the response of the community who got involved in this project. Participants of all ages took the time to over the past month to decorate their own unique feather, which is now on display for everyone to see,” she said.

“The designs of the feathers are just fantastic; every individual piece plays an important part of the overall artwork. The project reinforces just what we can achieve collectively as a community.

“We’re encouraging library users to take a moment out of their visit to stop and appreciate the wings and the creativity of those who participated. Better yet, take a photo and share your wings with the hashtag #glenelglibraries.”
