MEDIA RELEASE - Portland Foreshore inclusive play space

5 October 2017

You are invited to have your say on the proposed Portland Foreshore Master Plan which will transform one of the town’s busiest attractions.

Council is seeking expressions of interest from community members who would like to assist in the further development of the inclusive play space, a sub-element of the Portland Foreshore Master Plan.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the development of an inclusive play space which includes access for people of all abilities would dramatically enhance not only the physical character of the area; but will play a huge role in driving tourism to the shire.

“The addition of an inclusive play space to the foreshore master plan would positively impact the lives and wellbeing of not only those living with a disability, but also their families and carers,” Cr Rank said.

Mayor Cr Anita Rank strongly encouraged residents to attend the community engagement session on Monday 9 October, between 3-5pm at the Portland Municipal Offices.

“It is important for members of the community to attend these sessions or submit their feedback online, as their opinions play a large role in the implementation of the foreshore master plan.”

The initial community consultation process was completed in September 2016 which attracted responses from over 550 primary school age children, 20 preschool age children, 60 teachers, teacher aids and carers and over 100 members of the public.

A current funding application is in place and council funds have been set aside in the current budget to contribute to implementation of the plan if the external funding is successful.
