MEDIA RELEASE - Have your say on Heywood footpath upgrades

16 February 2021

Heywood residents are being asked to have their say on the most suitable locations for new footpaths as part of works earmarked for the township in the coming months.

The Glenelg Shire Council is currently seeking feedback on a series of proposed new footpath works to be undertaken in Heywood this financial year, with funding secured through the Federal Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure Program.

A total of seven locations have been identified as key sites for new paths:
• Lindsay Street, Carey St to join to existing footpath to the west.
• Darling Street, Edgar St to Fitzroy St.
• Darling Street, Fitzroy St to Carey St.
• Edgar Street, Barclay St to the Bowling Club.
• Carey Street, Scott St to Lindsay St.
• Fitzroy Street, Scott St to Lindsay St.
• Carey Street, Hunter St to Scott St.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank encouraged local residents to view the online map of the proposed paths and leave their feedback.

“Council has earmarked seven sections of streets in the heart of Heywood to be the most appropriate sites for new footpaths, helping to increase access for walking, teaching children to ride and overall beautifying the local streetscape,” she said.

“We want to hear from the community on the proposed locations – if they are happy with the streets selected or if there are other sites we should consider as part of the works.

“Footpaths bring incredible value to local communities and we want to ensure we invest in the areas that are of the greatest benefit to Heywood.”

Community members can have their say on the new footpaths and the identified locations by visiting the Your Say Glenelg website. Alternatively, hard copy feedback forms are available at the Heywood Customer Service Centre.

Feedback closes 5pm, Friday 26 February 2021.
