Portland Industrial Land Strategy

What is it?

The Portland Industrial Land Strategy is being undertaken by Glenelg Shire Council in partnership with Regional Development Victoria.

The Strategy will strategically identify the location and attributes of industrial land to meet the long term needs of industry. This will be achieved by:

Considering current and forecast industry trends;
Understanding land supply that is fit for purpose; and
Identifying and advancing solutions to land use and servicing constraints.

This will result in new and modified land use controls including rezoning, local policies, framework and precinct plans together with design guidelines for all industrial development and guidance for interface areas. The scope will cover the City of Portland, its immediate surrounds and the Portland - Heywood corridor.

A project consultancy team led by Parsons Brinckerhoff Pty Ltd and Macroplan Dimasi Pty Ltd were appointed in early 2015 to assist Council in preparing the Portland Industrial Land Strategy.

Project Progress Update

At its 23 August 2016 Ordinary Council Meeting, Council adopted the Portland Industrial Land Strategy ('the Strategy'). This Strategy is the culmination of two years' work on the project.

The Strategy is the primary deliverable of the project, providing the framework, vision, objectives, master plans, design guidelines and implementation plan for industrial land in Portland.

The Strategy was refined utilising feedback received on the Draft in June.

Parliamentary Secretary Ms Danielle Green MP 'launched' the Strategy on 14 February 2017 along with the recently developed Portland Industrial Investment Prospectus. These are attached below.
