MEDIA RELEASE - Draft Casterton Structure Plan out for Public Comment

6 November 2017

Glenelg Shire Council invites the public to have their say on the first draft of the Casterton Structure Plan.

The Casterton Structure Plan is a multi-stage project created to help direct future land use, development, and public spaces and improve pedestrian links as well as movement within the township.

Casterton-based Glenelg Shire councillor Karen Stephens said the draft plan represented the fourth stage of the project and was a culmination of extensive research, field work and conversations with community members.

“Residents have provided insightful feedback in relation to the town’s key attributes and what they value about living and working in Casterton,” Cr Stephens said.

“Survey results and discussions held over the last six months helped to identify a broad range of priorities, opportunities and constraints that may shape the growth and liveability of Casterton.

“The project team have considered these matters and developed a plan that focuses on six key themes including land use, streetscape and urban design, housing, recreation and open space, movement and tourism.

“The plan responds to these themes by setting out objectives, strategies and actions to guide improvements in these areas,” she said.

Cr Stephens encouraged residents to view the draft plan and provide feedback to the project team by filling out a survey form or attending the upcoming community drop-in session at the Casterton Shire Hall on Monday 13 November.

“I invite residents to come along and ask questions about the project. It’s not too late to share your ideas about how best to plan for the future of Casterton,” Cr Stephens said.

The Draft Structure Plan’s current project bulletin and survey are available at the Casterton Library and Customer Service Centre.
