MEDIA RELEASE - Gender Sexuality Commissioner to return to Portland

22 November 2017

Ro Allen

Victoria’s Gender and Sexuality Commissioner will visit the Glenelg Shire for the second time this year to headline an upcoming Equality Roadshow event.

Commissioner Ro Allen will join members from the Equality Roadshow team to present a free LGBTI Inclusion workshop on Wednesday 6 December at the Glenelg Shire Council offices in Portland from 9am – 12pm.

The informative and practical session will discuss the opportunities and challenges of everyday LGBTI inclusion in rural and regional communities.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank was thrilled to welcome back the Commissioner to the region following a successful visit earlier this year.

“It is with great pleasure that the Glenelg Shire will once again host Ro Allen to discuss equality and inclusion in our community,” she said.

“The Commissioner visited us in May for an informal networking event and the feedback we received was just fantastic.

“As a result, Ro promised to return to present a workshop-style event to address key issues and risk factors facing members of the LGBTI community.

“I look forward to hosting another successful Equality Roadshow event in our shire and hearing what opportunities are on the horizon.”

The half-day workshop will be aimed at government staff, educators, health professionals, community members and LGBTI community members and their allies.

Participants will be updated on the Victorian Government’s LGBTI Equality agenda, and how Inclusion Planning will play a key local role, learn about the latest research evidence of LGBTI experience and hear from local LGBTI individuals and state wide LGBTI organisations.

Attendees will also be able to contribute to a local LGBTI Inclusion Plan.

RSVP to Rowena Doo for catering purposes by 30 November via email at or phone on (03) 9097 7146.
