MEDIA RELEASE - Pool Upgrades Ready in Time for Summer Outdoor Swimming Season

24 November 2017

Residents across the townships of Casterton and Merino will have even more reasons to enjoy their local swimming pool this summer following extensive upgrades to the popular leisure facilities.

A combined $1.15 million worth of improvements to both the Casterton and Merino outdoor swimming pools are nearing completion and will be finished in time for the summer swimming season.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said council was pleased to ensure access for community members to modern and reliable recreational facilities in their local townships.

“What better way to kick off the summer across the shire with exciting improvements to our local swimming facilities, which will become community hubs once the warm weather hits,” she said.

“Casterton swimming pool has received $800,000 worth of upgrades, with $200,000 supported from the Victorian Government through Sports and Recreation Victoria (SRV).

“Work includes new concrete paths, a new flat wet deck, new pool grating and tiling, and a new access ramp.

“Council has also funded $350,000 worth of improvements to the Merino pool which include a new water treatment plant and shed, new concrete paths and a new shade sail over the toddler pool.

“These timely upgrades will ensure our local leisure facilities are safe, reliable and accessible for all.

“From 1 December, residents will be able to officially cool off at their new and improved local swimming pool.”

A formal opening event will take place on Friday 8 December at the Casterton Outdoor Swimming Pool to officially unveil the new facilities to the public.

The event will coincide with the Island Park Netball Tennis Clubrooms Project launch; with a tour of the pool upgrades to follow the opening of the sporting clubrooms.
