MEDIA RELEASE - Summer events calendar proves Shire is the place to be

5 December 2017

Summer 17/18 Events Calendar

Council’s quarterly events calendar proves Glenelg is the place to be this summer with festivals and events being hosted throughout the shire every weekend over the three month period.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said the easy-to-read A3 guide included all community events in the shire for the season and was widely distributed to ensure mass market consumption.

“The summer events calendar is available for free at Visitor Information Centres, local caravan parks, cafes and a number of businesses throughout the shire, in addition to Council’s Customer Service Centres,” Cr Rank said.

“Not only is the events calendar a great way for locals to keep on top of events in the area, the region’s VIC network have also shared the calendar as an easy resource for visitors to map their stay in the area.”

Cr Rank said the calendar boasted a number of popular events, including Portland’s Christmas Eve celebrations, New Year’s Eve and the highly anticipated Hooked on Portland Festival held during the Australia Day long weekend.

“The calendar also gives visitors the opportunity to attend much-loved smaller local community events and markets, boosting the shire’s reputation in local produce,” she said

Cr Rank said the launch of the new I am Portland tourism website this month would further strengthen the marketing council could provide to local volunteers and groups who worked tirelessly to coordinate and promote local events.

“It doesn’t matter whether your event is brand new, or been running for years, we want to ensure it is included in this resource so as many people as possible are aware it is on and visit our region,” she said.

“Council will also promote your event on our regular radio interview spot on Ace Radio, Mount Gambier’s Triple M and regular spot on ABC radio, ensuring the whole Green Triangle region can pencil it in their diary.”
