Public Notice - General Local Law 2018

In accordance with section 119(2) of the Local Government Act 1989 (the ‘Act’), notice is hereby given that Glenelg Shire Council at its meeting on
Tuesday 12 December 2017, resolved to adopt the General Local Law 2018, which will revoke the General Local Law 2008 and will come into operation on
1 February 2018 throughout the entire municipal district of Glenelg Shire Council.

The purpose and general purport of the General Local Law 2018 is to provide for;
• peace, order and good government of the municipality;
• a safe and healthy environment so that the community within the municipality can enjoy a quality of life that meets expectations;
• the safe and fair use and enjoyment of public places;
• the protection and enhancement of the amenity and environment of the municipality;
• fair and reasonable use and enjoyment of private land;
• protection of assets vested in, controlled or owned by Council; and
• uniform and fair administration and exercise of Council powers and functions of this Local Law.

The main parts include:
• Part 2 – Environment
• Part 3 – Animals
• Par 4 – Roads and Council Land
• Part 5 – Protection of Council Assets and control of Building Sites
• Part 6 – Administration
• Part 7 – Enforcement
