MEDIA RELEASE - Pre kinder programs open for 2018

17 January 2018

Families looking to enhance the learning and development of their three-year-old children are encouraged to enrol for pre-kindergarten.

Vacancies for 2018 programs are now open across four Glenelg Shire operated kindergarten campuses for children turning three in 2018.

Glenelg Shire Council Children’s Services Manager Janine Johnstone said a number of pre-kindergarten sessions were on offer at Heywood Kindergarten, Portland’s Jaycee Kindergarten and Kalbarri Kindergarten and Kathleen Millikan Centre in Casterton to accommodate families’ needs and schedules.

“The three-year-old program focuses on social interactions, emotional development and the fun side of learning, and is an important stepping stone into four year old kindergarten,” Ms Johnstone said.

“To help ensure a smooth transition into kindergarten and primary school, we recommend all families enrol their child into pre-kinder to ensure our youngest residents get their very best start to their education.”

Ms Johnstone said families could be assured that all pre-kindergarten programs would be delivered to the highest standard.

“Parents can feel confident that their children will be taught in the best possible learning environment, no matter which service they attend for pre-kindergarten sessions,” she said.

“Our programs are delivered by fully qualified kindergarten teachers and Jaycee, Kalbarri, Heywood and Kathleen Millikan Centre services all exceed the national quality standards.

“Furthermore, there have been many recent improvements to enhance the outdoor learning and play environments at our centres, with new play equipment and shade sails installed at Kalbarri Kindergarten, a new shade umbrella at Heywood Kindergarten and a fantastic interactive water way feature at Jaycee.

“With limited vacancies available for the pre-kinder program, I encourage all interested families to contact our friendly Children’s Services team today to secure their child’s place.”

Pre-kindergarten sessions will take place on Mondays. Sessions will begin in Casterton on 29 January and Heywood and Portland from 5 February.
