MEDIA RELEASE - Launch into 2019 with song and style at the Portland Arts Centre

9 January 2019

Get a taste of the cabaret, comedy, circus and more that is coming to the Glenelg Shire in 2019 at the upcoming ArtsGlenelg Season Launch.

The ArtsGlenelg Season Launch will take place on Friday 8 February from 6pm at the Portland Arts Centre, offering a pop-up bar, nibbles and the first show of the season; Dance Hall.

Glenelg Shire Council Arts and Culture Manager Susie Lyons said that the launch would provide eventgoers a ‘sneak-peak’ of what to expect on stage in 2019.

“The ArtsGlenelg team are incredibly excited to unveil to our loyal theatregoers and arts lovers what we have in store for 2019,” she said.

“This year we will be presenting a brilliant array of performances to suit all tastes, with plenty of excellent family shows, comedy, cabaret, circus, classical and contemporary music, including the increasingly popular ‘Small Night In’ events.

“Launch attendees will be offered a free champagne upon arrival and there will be a pop up bar and nibbles available after the launch. If you want an intimate preview of what performances and exhibitions are planned throughout the year then come along to our free launch event.”

Ms Lyons said the launch would be followed by the first show of the season - cabaret extravaganza Dance Hall.

“Finucane & Smith’s Dance Hall is both outrageous and unforgettable, showcasing world-famous dances and songs from around the globe in spectacular fashion against the backdrop of velvet drapes and glowing lanterns,” she said.

“The show, which is targeted to adults, will transform the Portland Arts Centre into an intoxicating dance dive, offering line dances, Ethiopian shimmy, a spot of Bollywood and even a touch of ABBA, so get ready to bust a move under the twinkling lights!

“Dance Hall will also feature four local performances, allowing local stars and world famous legends to share the stage together in this special performance. With last year’s show a sell-out, I advise any interested community members to book their tickets to Dance Hall now to avoid disappointment.”
