MEDIA RELEASE - Funding open for local community groups

4 February 2019

Community groups, individuals and not-for profit organisations in the Glenelg Shire are invited to make their project become a reality, with applications for round two of council’s
2018-2019 Community Grants Program now open.

Grant applications for Round 2 of the 2018-2019 Community Grants Program officially opened from 9am on 4 February 2019 and are open for a three week period, closing at 5pm on 25 February 2019.

The grant categories include recreation/public halls, community strengthening, community events and arts culture and heritage.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Cr Anita Rank said she hoped to see a broad range of grant applications received from community groups across the shire.

“Community organisations are the lifeblood of our region, the work of our tireless volunteers contributes to what makes this shire such a fantastic place to live,” she said.

“Council is pleased to be in a position to support these valuable organisations through our Community Grants Program. Last financial year alone the Community Grants program injected more than $162,000 in funding for important projects, events and initiatives, enabling our community to continue to prosper and succeed.

“I encourage all eligible groups, committees and individuals across the shire that have a project in mind that requires financial assistance to apply for funding as part of the Community Grants Program. All projects, great or small, will be considered.”

Applications for round two of the 2018-2019 Community Grants Program can be completed and submitted online at https://glenelg.smartygrants.com.au/.

Information kits are can also be downloaded from the Community Grants section of council’s website.

Potential applicants are reminded to refer to the Community Grants Guidelines 2018-2019 to assess their eligibility to apply. All organisations and groups are strongly encouraged to discuss their projects with the relevant council officer prior to submitting their application.
