22 December 2017

Glenelg Shire Council children and youth services officer Abby Taylor said she was pleased to announce that the Summer Reading Club for school aged kids is taking place at Glenelg Libraries over the summer break.

“The Summer Reading Club was a huge success last year with over 55,000 children participating across Australia,” she said.

“The theme for the 2017 Summer Reading Club is ‘GAME ON’ with young readers encouraged to play, solve, participate and read in celebration of sports, games, technology and spirit.”

Glenelg Libraries we will be hosting a ‘GAME ON’ event, an activity afternoon of puzzles and team challenges at the Portland Library in the New Year on Thursday 4 January, from 4pm to 5pm.

Registration to the reading club is free and participants who register at Glenelg Libraries will receive a Summer Reading Club welcome pack.

Ms Taylor said participants can also register through the Summer Reading Club website at

“National prizes are also up for grabs for those who participate in the online activities,” she said.

Mayor Cr Rank said the Summer Reading Club encourages kids to live a healthy lifestyle.

“A healthy lifestyle doesn’t stop at physical activity, it is also about expressing your creativity and engaging in literary activities,” Cr Rank said.

“The program allows kids throughout the shire to discover great junior authors as well as be a part of a national community.”
