MEDIA RELEASE - Council reminds residents of holiday season closures and services

20 December 2017

Council reminds all Glenelg Shire residents many council services will be closed or varied during the holiday season.

All Customer Service Centres will close over the Christmas and New Year period, but residents with urgent council related matters can call council on 1300 GLENELG (1300 453 635) and will be diverted to an on-call staff member.

Council offices will be close at 1pm Friday 22 December 2017 and will re-open Tuesday 2 January 2018.

Glenelg Shire Council Mayor Cr Anita Rank said all Visitor Information Centres will close Christmas Day and re-open on Boxing Day to ensure tourists passing through and staying in the shire over the festive season are fully catered for.

“The summer holidays is a busy period throughout the shire and many residents are travelling to spend quality time with their loved ones, remember to drive safe and enjoy your time off,” she said.

Cr Rank passed on her festive cheer and season’s greetings to the community.

“On behalf of my fellow councillors and council staff, I wish all residents a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

“Please be mindful of your health and safety throughout the warmer months by staying alert for fire danger warnings and look out for fellow community members,” she said.

Cr Rank said 2017 had been an incredibly successful year for the shire.

“There has been much achieved in our region over the past 12 months and I look forward to continue to focus on our work plans in 2018.

“January will be an exciting month for the shire with our Australia Day Award ceremony to kick off the three day festival, Hooked On Portland.”
